A New Home for Specialty Coffee in Prague: The Story Behind Our Father’s Coffee Store in Bubeneč

You might already know the story of how a cup of espresso changed our view on coffee in 2013. But back then, we had no idea that this moment would also change our lives. There was no plan, no strategy, just curiosity and a desire to understand what we were actually drinking.

Why is there a Father’s Coffee store in Prague?

When we opened our own roastery in Ostrava in 2018, we didn’t want to conquer the world. We wanted to do things honestly. To know the origin of the coffee, speak directly with the farmers, roast with respect, and deliver coffee to people with shared values.

Ostrava has always been our home - and it still is. But as we grew, and as our community of cafés and baristas expanded, we began to feel that our space there was no longer enough. Especially for our partners from Bohemia, who had to travel a long way to see us. That’s why we opened doors to our store in Prague’s Bubeneč.

The base we had been missing for a long time.

We originally built the Father’s store in Prague as a base for our partners, the cafés, baristas, and teams we have been working with long‍-‍term. We were already in personal contact with each of them beforehand. We visited them, fine‍-‍tuned recipes, and tasted new coffees. But we were missing our own place where we could hold cuppings, consultations, or training sessions.

That’s exactly what we wanted to change in Bubeneč. And that’s exactly how we started using the store as a place for meetings and support for our partners. But with every new visit and every new conversation during preparations, it became clearer to us that this place could be more open. We wanted to share it with people outside the café world, with everyone interested in coffee. And so we opened the Father’s store to the public as well.

Curious what the Father’s store looks like?

Don’t expect a typical café. Or a shop where you just grab a bag of coffee and go.
The store is a place to slow down — to stop by for an espresso, try something new, or ask what we’re currently roasting. It’s where you can tell us what’s (not) working for you at home, and get advice on how to make your coffee better.

It’s not just our space — it’s for anyone curious about what’s behind the flavor in the cup. Whether you’re a professional or just someone who loves brewing at home, you’re welcome here.

Here’s what you’ll find in the store:

• Espresso bar – serving coffee from our current roasting lineup
• Batch brew or hand brew – made with a Solo dripper, always from our latest selection
• Specialty coffee for home – available as whole beans, drip bags, or capsules
• Merch – from our iconic caps and t‍-‍shirts to our latest sweatshirts
• Consultations, trainings, and cuppings – currently for cafés, and soon for individuals too

A space that grows with you

The Father’s store isn’t a brand showcase. It’s a space born from the desire to be closer — to those who work with us, to those who don’t just drink coffee but want to understand it, and to those who simply want to pause for a moment, ask a question, or enjoy an espresso.

It doesn’t matter if you are a professional or you’ve only been interested in specialty coffee for a short time. What matters is that you enjoy it. And if you ever find yourself near Bubenečská 43, stop by.

Fathers & Coffee Gardens collaboration: What Will the QC Lab Look Like in Uganda?

This year marked the first since the founding of our roastery. In Uganda, our schedule included not only typical activities like visiting plantations and interacting with local farmers, but also a crucial meeting with Dana, Shake, and Donald from the processing station, Coffee Gardens. We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of a QC Lab in Uganda in collaboration with them. This facility will help Coffee Gardens and other nearby processing stations monitor the quality of coffee beans. This article will explore how such a project is coordinated from five and a half thousand kilometers away and why we need to invest in these endeavors.
