If you donât have an Aeropress yet, and youâre wondering which type to choose and what preparation method to use, weâve got your back.
The story of the Aeropress takes us back to the early 00s to the US. It was an American engineer who decided to improve the standard methods of coffee preparation. Alan Adler introduced the world a unique way of making filtered coffee in 2005. The unbreakable, compact, and quick Aeropress soon became a favorite for anyone who, like Adler, longed for an excellent cup of coffee without excessive bitterness and acidity.
Adler utilized his expertise in aerodynamics when creating the Aeropress. After numerous experiments with different pressures and temperatures, he finally found the ideal combination that now provides millions of people worldwide with a balanced cup of coffee with lower acidity. Not long after its invention, the AeroPress Championship competition was created. Like the Aeropress itself, it gained immense popularity globally â in Ostrava itself as well. We hosted the regional round here in August last year.

Since the invention of the first Aeropress, not many years have passed, but its development and new types have not waited. What are their advantages, and which one is right for you?
AeroPress Original â The original version, invented by Alan Adler in his garage, is perfect for daily use at home. Itâs simple, fast, and messâ-âfree. After pressing the coffee, a compact puck of coffee grounds forms inside, which you can throw away in one move. Rinse the cylinder, and voila â youâre done, cleaned up, and can enjoy your cup of coffee in peace.
AeroPress Go â Even smaller, lighter, and more compact than the original. It can be folded into a small box with a lid, which also serves as a cup. The stirrer can also be folded. And the result? You can take it anywhere. It fits even into the most overcrowded backpack, and you can make great coffee while trekking in the mountains or camping in the woods.
AeroPress XL â The more, the merrier. Are you hosting a brunch or do you want to enjoy a coffee break at work with more people? The preparation is the same, but the capacity is twice as large. If you like to share coffee with others, the XL is perfect for you.
AeroPress Clear â The newest version of the Aeropress is mainly a designer piece. The Aeropress is transparent, allowing you to watch the coffee during preparation. Itâs made from Tritan; a transparent yet sturdy plastic.
The Aeropress has two basic preparation methods: the classic and the inverted. Whatâs the difference?
How to classic method? â Insert a paper filter into the grid and screw it onto the Aeropress. Then place it filterâ-âside down on a cup, add coffee, pour in water, and then use the plunger to press the coffee into the cup.
How to inverted method? â Attach the plunger right away, turn the Aeropress upside down, add coffee, pour in water, and then place the grid with the filter on top. Then flip the Aeropress and press it into the cup.
For Aeropress preparation, choose coffee roasted for filters. Generally, itâs recommended to grind the coffee to a âmediumâ coarseness, similar to sand grains.
We recommend experimenting. Just as coffee varies, so do taste preferences. However, if you find a grind size you like, remember it or write it down so you can replicate it next time.

This year marked the first since the founding of our roastery. In Uganda, our schedule included not only typical activities like visiting plantations and interacting with local farmers, but also a crucial meeting with Dana, Shake, and Donald from the processing station, Coffee Gardens. We are excited to announce the upcoming launch of a QC Lab in Uganda in collaboration with them. This facility will help Coffee Gardens and other nearby processing stations monitor the quality of coffee beans. This article will explore how such a project is coordinated from five and a half thousand kilometers away and why we need to invest in these endeavors.
