Uganda - Namugowa
Namugowa is not just another specialty coffee. It is part of a bigger story, one we have personally invested a piece of ourselves in. In Uganda, we had the chance to be there, see the farmers who grow the coffee, and go through the whole process from harvest to drying. That was when we realised we wanted to do even more.
Preparation
We roast this coffee for filter. It is suitable for all kinds of filter coffee brewing, such as Solo Dripper, V60, Chemex, AeroPress, French press and more.
Would you like it for espresso? We also roast this coffee in an espresso version - you can find it here: Uganda - Namugowa
The Story
Namugowa is not just another specialty coffee. It is part of a bigger story, one we have personally invested a piece of ourselves in. During our trip to Uganda, we had the chance to be directly with the farmers who grow the coffee and go through the whole process from harvest to drying. That was when we realised we wanted to do even more.
The Coffee Gardens was founded in 2017 with the aim of producing specialty coffee in an ethical way and connecting farmers directly with consumers. The project focuses on improving farmers’ living conditions, creating jobs in rural areas, supporting gender equality, increasing transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain, and protecting the environment in the Mt Elgon region.
Together with The Coffee Gardens, we co-financed the opening of the QC Lab in Uganda - a quality laboratory that helps farmers evaluate their harvest directly on site, improve their processes and, as a result, achieve fairer prices.
Every cup of Namugowa is therefore not only about taste, but also about the future. About giving farmers the tools and knowledge that can open the door to better conditions and greater stability. 🤎 And that is exactly why we love returning to Uganda.
How the coffee is processed
This coffee is processed using the cherry fermentation washed method. Fresh coffee cherries are fermented before depulping, which deepens sweetness and fruitiness. They are then washed and dried on raised beds so the coffee can preserve its clarity and complexity.
Variety
This lot combines three important varieties: the Ugandan classic SL14, with delicate citrus notes and a lightly tea-like body; the legendary Kenyan SL28, with intense fruitiness and blackcurrant notes; and the historic Nyasaland Arabica from Malawi, which brings delicate floral and tea-like notes with a light citrus sweetness.
